2008 Grass Drag Rules
GENERAL AND SAFETY RULES FOR ALL CLASSES
Driver Requirements:
1.
Drivers must be a
minimum of 14 years old or older and have at least one year of racing
experience to race with the exception of Junior and Mini 120 classes – Drivers
under the age of 18 must have parental consent form signed for each race.
2.
A Snell Approved or DOT
helmet.
3.
Eye Protection is
required (Goggles or Shield)
4.
Chest protection is
mandatory – Safety jackets, Tek vests, etc.
Snowmobile
Requirements:
1.
All sleds must be 1985
or older unless otherwise stated. Exception: Mini 120’s
2.
All sleds must have a working
tether. Tether is to be attached to the driver anytime the engine is running.
This includes the pit area.
3.
Snowmobile hood is required.
4.
Snow flaps with
restraints are required. Flap must touch the ground when driver is seated on
sled.
5.
Ski loops must be
padded.
6.
Windshield edge must
have some type of protective edging.
7.
Clutch and recoil must
be covered.
8.
A manufactured fuel tank
is mandatory.
9.
Jack stands with 4”
minimum sides, made with suitable material, must be used at all times.
Absolutely NO exceptions!
Race Requirements:
1.
A minimum of three
entries per class is required to race. If the minimum is not reached, entry
fees will be refunded for that class.
2.
A sled cannot be entered
more than once in any one class. One driver per sled, per race.
3.
The sled, engine, and
driver that qualify in a heat race must be the same that is used in the semi
final, quarter final and.or final race. Failure to comply will result in
disqualification for that class.
TECH AND/OR RACE OFFICIALS RESERVE THE
RIGHT AND RESPONSIBILITY TO EJECT ANY PERSON(S) FOR ANY RULE OR SAFETY
INFRACTION. ANY VIOLATION OF THE ABOVE RULES MAY RESULT IN DISCIPLINARY ACTION
AND MAY INCLUDE DISQUALIFICATION.
Tech Inspections:
All
sleds entered must go through pre-race safety inspection to ensure all safety
rules are adhered to. Only snowmobiles passing inspection will be allowed to
race.
Formal Protests:
All
protests must be in writing. Forms are available at the scoring/registration
trailer and a $40.00 cash deposit is required with the completed form. You must
be specific with the rule infraction that is in question and must be entered in
the class you are protesting.
Only
the person protesting, along with the sled owner, and tech officials may be
present at teardown.
If
the official ruling is returned as legal, you will lose your $40.00 deposit to
the sled owner. If the official ruling is returned as illegal, you will be
refunded your $40.00 deposit and the driver with the illegal sled will be
disqualified for that class.
Driver Point System:
A high points trophy will be
awarded to the driver that accumulates the most points for the day. Points are
awarded for final races only. Points are not awarded for Women, Junior or Mini
120 Races.
1st
place = 5 points 2nd
place = 3 points 3rd place
= 2 points 4th place
= 1 point
STOCK MINI 120s 3-6 YEAR OLDS:
Carburetion: Stock. NO modifications or alterations
allowed.
Engine: Stock. Governor kits allowed. Must have
working tether and kill switch.
Clutch: Stock clutch – 10 tooth gear only.
Drive Train: Stock configuration for that model of sled.
Driven gear 36-tooth and up. NO belt drive systems allowed.
Track: Stock. NO track modifications allowed.
Exhaust: Stock. NO modifications or alterations
allowed.
Front Suspension: Stock. Skis must be stock. NO modifications
or alterations allowed. Metal front bumpers and ski loops must be padded.
Rear Suspension: Stock. Wheel kits allowed.
Traction: One stud per opening. Maximum stud height is
1/2” above highest point of track lug. NO EXCEPTIONS!
Fuel: Pump fuel only. NO race fuel or power
additives allowed.
STOCK MINI 120s 7-10 YEAR OLDS:
Carburetion: Stock. NO modifications or alterations
allowed.
Engine: Stock. Governor kits allowed. Must have
working tether and kill switch.
Clutch: Open.
Drive Train: Stock configuration for that model of sled. Open
gearing. NO belt drive systems allowed.
Track: Stock. NO track modifications allowed.
Exhaust: Stock. NO modifications or alterations
allowed.
Front Suspension: Stock. Skis must be stock. NO modifications
or alterations allowed. Metal front bumpers and ski loops must be padded.
Rear Suspension: Stock. Wheel kits allowed.
Traction: One stud per opening. Maximum stud height is
1/2” above highest point of track lug. NO EXCEPTIONS!
Fuel: Pump fuel only. NO race fuel or power
additives allowed.
MODIFIED MINI 120s 6-12 YEAR OLDS:
Carburetion: Open.
Engine: 4-Stroke Engines only. Modifications
allowed. Maximum 6 ½ HP engine. Must have working tether and kill switch.
Clutch: Open.
Drive Train: Stock configuration for that model of sled. Open
gearing. NO belt drive systems allowed.
Track: Stock. NO track modifications allowed.
Exhaust: Open.
Front Suspension: Stock. Skis-open. NO modifications or
alterations allowed. Metal front bumpers and ski loops must be padded.
Rear Suspension: Stock. Wheel kits allowed.
Chassis: Stock for that model of sled. Ski-Doo,
Polaris, and Arctic Cat only. NO widening allowed. NO manufacturer/aftermarket race
sleds allowed.
Traction: Open. Maximum stud height is 1/2” above
highest point of track lug. NO EXCEPTIONS!
Fuel: Racing fuel or pump fuel only. NO alcohol or
power additives allowed.
FAN, FREE AIR, and LIQUID-COOLED STOCK CLASS RULES:
Carburetion: Stock, butterfly or round slide only. NO
flat slides, NO additional carbs, stock manifold.
Engine: Stock. Must be an original snowmobile engine
for that model sled. NO swapping of engine parts from other models or
manufacturers. NO modifications or alterations allowed. Maximum bore of .060
over stock.
Clutch: Any primary, stock secondary that came with
that model sled.
Drive Train: Stock configuration for that model of sled.
Track: Maximum lug or cleat height of 1”. Cleated
tracks allowed. NO track modifications allowed. If track is longer than
original, a tunnel extension is required. NO performance enhancing tracks allowed
(ex: Kimpex Speed Tracks, Camoplast R Tracks).
Exhaust: Stock for that model sled. NO aftermarket
pipes allowed. NO modifications or alterations allowed. NO mod kits.
Front Suspension: Stock suspension. Independent front
suspensions allowed.
Rear Suspension: Any rear suspension ’85 and older (Exception:
’75 & Older Single Cylinder Class). Must match manufacturer. NO
modifications or alterations.
Chassis: Stock for that model of sled. NO
manufacturer race sleds allowed. NO modifications or alterations. Replacement
tunnel allowed – Must be ’85 and older (Exception: ’75 & Older Single
Cylinder Class) and match original manufacturer. Must be made of same material
(ex: aluminum to aluminum).
Traction: Maximum stud height is 1/2” above highest point
of track lug or cleat. NO EXCEPTIONS!
Fuel: Racing fuel or pump fuel only. NO alcohol. NO
nitrous or power additives allowed.
FAN, FREE AIR, and LIQUID-COOLED MODIFIED CLASS RULES:
Carburetion: Open.
Engine: Must be a snowmobile engine. Must match
manufacturer of sled. Maximum bore of .060 over stock.
Clutch: Open.
Drive Train: Open.
Track: Open.
Exhaust: Open.
Front Suspension: Stock suspension. Independent front
suspensions allowed.
Rear Suspension: Open.
Chassis: Must match manufacturer of engine. Hood must
match manufacturer of sled. Factory race sleds allowed. Replacement tunnel
allowed – Must be ’85 and older and match original manufacturer. (Exception:
1972 and Older Class) Must be made of same material (ex: aluminum to aluminum).
Traction: Maximum stud height is 1/2” above highest
point of track lug or cleat. NO EXCEPTIONS!
Fuel: Racing fuel or pump fuel only. NO alcohol. NO
power additives including nitrous.
FAN, FREE AIR, and LIQUID-COOLED HEAVY MODIFIED CLASS RULES:
Carburetion: Open.
Engine: Open. Any CC allowed.
Clutch: Open.
Drive Train: Open.
Track: Open.
Exhaust: Open.
Front Suspension: Open.
Rear Suspension: Open.
Chassis: Open.
Traction: Maximum stud height is 1/2” above highest
point of track lug or cleat. NO EXCEPTIONS!
Fuel: Racing fuel, pump fuel, nitrous allowed. NO alcohol.
